I have a very sedentary job as a database administrator, with long and unusual hours. I typically work from home, and at times I am unable to leave the house because I need to be near the computer. I keep a treadmill in my office, so I can run and watch the monitor. I enjoy running outside, too, but there are weeks where I don't even get out to the mailbox. If it weren't for the treadmill, I would be 50 pounds heavier, and stressed beyond my limits.
I run for fun, to relieve stress, and to burn calories. I sometimes race, but more often I enter races with my non-running husband, and walk them at his pace. I did get a chance to run a half marathon on my own this year, and finished in 2:15. I am a huge fan of the Nike + iPod system, and rarely run without it. I am actively involved in 40 distance challenges most of the time, but my big goal is to get complete 2,000 miles by the end of 2007. Upcoming races include the Great Santa Run, P.F. Chang's Rock N Roll Arizona Half Marathon, and the Mardi Gras Half Marathon. For 2008 I'm going to cut back on the distance and start working on speed.
